What is jitter clicking?

Jitter clicking is a technique where you tense the muscles in your arm and hand until your finger vibrates rapidly on the mouse button. Each vibration registers as a click. It's popular in Minecraft PvP and other games where clicking speed helps, because it can push you from a normal 6–7 clicks per second into double figures.

Your scores on this page are saved separately from the standard CPS test, so you can track your jitter progress on its own.

How to jitter click

  1. Grip. Use a claw or fingertip grip so your index finger sits arched on the left button.
  2. Tense up. Tighten the muscles in your forearm and wrist, but not your shoulder. The vibration should come from your forearm.
  3. Let it shake. Press lightly with your fingertip and let the tension make your finger shake against the button. Don't try to move your finger deliberately.
  4. Find the rhythm. Start with 3–5 second bursts. When you can keep a steady rhythm, move to 10 seconds.
  5. Add aim later. Jitter clicking makes the mouse move. Once your speed is consistent, practise keeping your crosshair still while you jitter.

What CPS can you expect?

Most people who are learning jitter clicking reach around 9–11 CPS, and practised jitter clickers often hold 11–14 CPS over 10 seconds. If you're below 8, your hand is probably too relaxed or you're moving your finger on purpose. Above 14 is very rare with jitter alone and is more typical of butterfly or drag clicking.

Avoiding strain

Jitter clicking is hard on your forearm and wrist. Keep sessions short, shake out your hand between attempts and stop if you feel pain, tingling or numbness. Many competitive players use jitter only in short bursts during fights rather than all the time.

Is jitter clicking allowed?

Jitter clicking is a manual technique, so on most servers it's simply a skill. Rules about click speed, macros and modified mice vary from server to server, so check the rules of the one you play on.

Frequently asked questions

Which mouse is best for jitter clicking?

A light mouse with a short, crisp click and a grippy surface. Mice with very heavy or deep clicks are harder to vibrate.

Why does my mouse move when I jitter?

The tension that makes your finger vibrate also shakes your hand. Pressing your palm or wrist lightly onto the mouse pad helps steady it.

How long does it take to learn?

Many people get the basic vibration in a few sessions. Holding a steady rate with good aim takes longer, and short daily practice works better than long sessions.
